Taking a full, broad spectrum approach of how to coach kids soccer will
enable coaches to get the best out of their youngsters. There are many aspects of the game, other
than just kicking a ball.
Of course it is important to get a youngster used to the feel of the ball
at their feet and the more they practice with it, the better and more confident they will
become.
So, tossing the ball at the feet of young players is a good way to open up
a world of coaching for them, but remember to always keep challenging them in new and fun
ways.
It is important to remember to allow the kids to actually enjoy what they
are practicing and it is not all about running drill after drill and perfection at this young
age.
So letting kids just enjoy themselves kicking the ball around, and letting
them freestyle in trying to do their own tricks will go a long way to boosting their confidence and
for keeping their interest in the game high.
Kids need motivation and therefore it becomes difficult at times to always
force focus on them, so knowing how to coach kids soccer is about finding the balance between
practice and fun.
The best way to do this is of course is to make training fun! If it is
ball control that you are coaching, set up a line of cones and split your group up into
teams.
Then have them weave their way through the cones with the ball at their
feet to then take a pot shot at goal at the end of the course. The team with the most goals
wins
